Happy Holidays!

It has been another great year at White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery thanks to our loyal customers and staff.

This year we helped move over 1,900 families, seniors and businesses while also being a part of some big projects that have made a great impact in our area such as the Hampton Inn of downtown Vero Beach.

As movers for Move for Hunger we have been able to help deliver over 10,000 pounds of non-perishable food items to the local Treasure Coast Food Bank. Additionally, White Glove has been able to help a number of local charities including helping to move an honored veteran in the Port St. Lucie area through the Homes for Hero’s program.

This year we were also blessed to have won the John Schumann Business Leadership Award and Large Green Company of the Year by KIRB (Keep Indian River Beautiful). These are true honors and validation of our efforts to continually give back, take pride in our team and value the feedback of our customers.

Should you need help with just one item getting it from a store to your home or a full pack and move locally or even out of state, the team of White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery is proud to be an affordable and reliable choice offering free estimates and true professionalism every step of the way.

Why are people homeless?

Housing

A lack of affordable housing and the limited scale of housing assistance programs have contributed to the current housing crisis and to homelessness. Recently, foreclosures have also increased the number of people who experience homelessness.

The National Low Income Housing Coalition estimates that the 2013 Housing Wage is $18.79, exceeding the $14.32 hourly wage earned by the average renter by almost $4.50 an hour, and greatly exceeding wages earned by low income renter households.

Poverty

Homelessness and poverty are inextricably linked. Poor people are frequently unable to pay for housing, food, childcare, health care, and education. Difficult choices must be made when limited resources cover only some of these necessities. Often it is housing, which absorbs a high proportion of income that must be dropped. If you are poor, you are essentially an illness, an accident, or a paycheck away from living on the streets.

Two factors help account for increasing poverty:

  • Lack of Employment Opportunities – With unemployment rates remaining high, jobs are hard to find in the current economy. Even if people can find work, this does not automatically provide an escape from poverty.
  • Decline in Available Public Assistance – The declining value and availability of public assistance is another source of increasing poverty and homelessness and many families leaving welfare struggle to get medical care, food, and housing as a result of loss of benefits, low wages, and unstable employment. Additionally, most states have not replaced the old welfare system with an alternative that enables families and individuals to obtain above-poverty employment and to sustain themselves when work is not available or possible.

Other major factors, which can contribute to homelessness, include:

  • Lack of Affordable Health Care – For families and individuals struggling to pay the rent, a serious illness or disability can start a downward spiral into homelessness, beginning with a lost job, depletion of savings to pay for care, and eventual eviction.
  • Domestic Violence – Battered women who live in poverty are often forced to choose between abusive relationships and homelessness. In addition, 50% of the cities surveyed by the U.S. Conference of Mayors identified domestic violence as a primary cause of homelessness (U.S. Conference of Mayors, 2005).
  • Mental Illness – Approximately 16% of the single adult homeless population suffers from some form of severe and persistent mental illness (U.S. Conference of Mayors, 2005).
  • Addiction – The relationship between addiction and homelessness is complex and controversial. Many people who are addicted to alcohol and drugs never become homeless, but people who are poor and addicted are clearly at increased risk of homelessness.

White Glove Moving Loves Stairs!

More and more people are falling in love with owning a condominium throughout Florida. Why? Well here’s a few reasons:

A condominium is like a hybrid between an apartment and a house with no yard to mow. This is a big appeal of owning a condo. There will be no mowing because you’ll pay dues to a condominium association, which will take care of most of your maintenance needs. Depending on your lifestyle and amount of time spend enjoying the yard; this could save thousands as well as man hours on yard work.

It’s less expensive than buying a comparable house. Obviously, the cost of a condo versus a house depends on the size of the home, the property values of the neighborhood and the cost of living in the area. But typically, you’ll spend less on a condo, especially in higher-cost markets where condos can be the only alternative to high-priced, single-family homes.

Of course, moving into a condo has its challenges.  That is why White Glove Moving & Storage prides itself in being able to expertly work with the association and property owner to coordinate seamless moves. This includes reserving the elevator and using proper protection on all surfaces, understanding the layout of the stairwells and using lifts and pulleys as needed depending on the building.

So if you are considering a condo for your primary or second home, know your move will be easy and affordable when you use the professionals at White Glove Moving. Free estimates and guaranteed date of move always offered.

Hunger Action Awareness Month

1 in 6 people struggle with hunger in the U.S.  Feeding America is helping to bring awareness about the real hunger issues we have and how we as businesses and citizens can help. At White Glove Moving & Storage we are proud to help daily as movers for Move for Hunger. Yet in the month of September, #spoontember, we are proud to wear our orange and help bring more attention to the cause and offer our location as a drop off.

When families and seniors move, consider donating the non-perishable food items rather than throwing it away. When one uses White Glove Moving that is a part of our service and costs nothing extra nor requires any extra steps aside from filling the boxes we provide free of charge.  Want to get involved and clean out your pantry or cupboards. Feel free to drop off boxes to our corporate headquarters at 2175 45t St. Vero Beach, FL 32967.

Senior Moving

Did you know that:

  • One in four home sellers are 65 or older
  • It has been proven that older adults making a move have over thirty to fifty years’ worth of accumulated items, this is a very sensitive time and the dispersement of these goods needs to be handled with care and empathy.
  • Many families are geographically dispersed and the adult children are often not able to help with the moving process due to distance, career, and family obligations…senior moving

White Glove Moving, Storage, & Delivery takes the frustrations out of the senior moving process and is able to handle all the downsizing and shipping needs of your loved ones from start to finish.    By helping with the distribution of items acquired over the years, White Glove can make the transition into a smaller place easier and help the owners understand these contents can be taken the donation place of their choice or stored for safe keeping until someone else can pick it up.  In addition, White Glove has teamed up with knowledgeable senior designers.  These designers help re-purpose items that cannot be parted with and make sure that all the necessities are brought into the new location then setup in a way to make the most out of the space while still being familiar and cozy.

White Glove along with its sister company, Pak Mail Beachside, can ensure that all heirlooms and items wishing to be gifted are properly packaged and labeled to be sent anywhere throughout the globe safely.  Estate dividing, estate shipping, and multiple destination shipping are valuable services White Glove can provide to customers during the stresses of downsizing or in the event of having lost a loved one.
