The Martin County Realtors of the Treasure Coast hosted their annual installation and awards luncheon at Monarch Country Club. With a sold-out crowd, the room was transformed into a patriotic display full of networking and applause for affiliates and realtor members alike. Since 2020 was such an unusual year, the membership agreed to renew the positions of the board. Hence, here is the board for 2021-2022:

Lorna Moodie, Director; Dan Carmody, President-Elect; Catherine Winters, Director; Jeff Clark, Immediate Past-President; Andy Spears, President; Marissa Corbo, Secretary-Treasurer; Ann Schmidt, Director; Michael Ponte, Director; Christy Bearse, Vice President; Stephen Ngo, Director; Sandy McAlister, Director; and Rosi Shepard, Director.

There were many winners that day with Jeff Clark being awarded Realtor of the Year, Bill Dean with In the Shade as Affiliate of the Year, Arrow Title as Affiliate Company of the Year and Anna Valencia Tillery with White Glove Moving the 2021 Standard of Excellence Award. When presented with the recognition, it was written that Anna’s creation of the Treasure Coast Premier Women’s Network, active role with the Women’s Council of Realtors Stuart-Martin and serving as the affiliate committee chairperson in a creative and fun way that is always engaging to the membership prompted the board to create an all new award just for her; what an honor! Yet, it all reality, it’s incredibly rewarding to serve in this active realtors association and be given the opportunity to introduce our services, as White Glove Moving & Storage, to the community as a whole. Thank you Martin County Realtors for this recognition and ongoing support.

Looking to Save Money and Pack Yourself?

It is common knowledge in the moving industry, that there are pros and cons to having customers pack themselves. In this blog, we are going to be covering those options and offer up some interesting solutions. Firstly, without a doubt, you will save money if you pack yourself.

Why? Because a full house pack is as much labor as the full loading and unloading process. Whether your professional movers arrive a day or two in advance or if you hire a 3rd party packer, travel costs along with labor and materials are going to equal out to nearly the cost of the move itself. Now, there are plenty of times when this cost is justifiable. For example, if you have limited time to give to packing; have the pros do it. Or, if you have several high value items; have the pros do it. Whether you are moving across the street or the country, whatever is packed by the owner is not covered under the moving company’s protection coverage. During the complimentary survey, the explanation and scenarios surrounding valuation coverage are explained at length. Thus, leaving the clients to determine what makes the most sense for their move and their budget.

Secondly, packing yourself allows you to sort items and potentially get rid of pieces you will not need or use in y our new home. After years of research, it has been proven that families collect thousands of extra pounds of household items for each decade they live in their home. Hence, if you are a family that in now becoming an empty nester for the first time or moving simply moving a house that is not your primary residence; packing yourself if likely a great option. However, if you are a family moving into a bigger home and time is scarce, it is likely valuable for the professionals to get it all done for you quickly. Or, if you are not in the area during the time of the move, knowing the team at White Glove can handle all the packing is a wonderful solution.

Therefore, knowing that each move is different and the needs of the customers as diverse as they are themselves; White Glove created some packages for families and individuals interested in packing themselves. Whatever the catalyst to your decision of packing a bulk of the items yourself, our team wants to be sure you are using quality materials to get it done. By having a four-ply box, it is better suited for stacking and handling long distances. Additionally, with our user friendly kits, the items suggested for each box are spelt out along with top of the line tape. In summary, the kits are available for purchase at our office whether you are moving with us or not. In fact, many individuals can benefit from just the materials themselves in the event they are settling up a small apartment after the passing of a senior or an estate. However, if you are hiring our team at White Glove Moving & Storage for your move, arrangements can be made for the kids to be delivered in the event pick up at the office is not convenient.

What to Know When Moving Post Covid

Though the world as we knew it shut down in March of 2020 due to the pandemic, a whole new trend emerged; the ability to work from anywhere. Thus, many families and professionals found solace in being able to move back to their hometowns or seek new lifestyles outside of densely populated cities. That freedom directly launched a nationwide uptick in real estate transactions. Which then also created added volume to the ancillary businesses that support the real estate agents; all during a time when labor force was at an all time low.

Planning a move in 2021 into 2022? Here’s a few things to keep in mind from the Treasure Coast’s most trusted moving and storage providers, interstate agents with Bekins Vanlines, White Glove Moving & Storage.

  1. Schedule in Advance.

Pre-covid it was common for a company White Glove’s size, 16 trucks and nearly 50 full time employees, could service a local or an interstate move with as little as 7-14 days’ notice. However, with nationwide labor low and pockets of covid outbreaks still occurring, it is highly recommended to book your survey and discuss moving dates before even listing your property. Many top-rated companies are booking out 4-6 weeks in advance for both local and nationwide moving services; don’t delay.

  1. Accountability.

Many smaller movers bid low with a non-bound price that is sure to go up, require a deposit and then come moving day are unable to service your move. Why? They want the work but run into weather delays or labor shortages that make it impossible to show up when you need them most. On average our White Glove office receives 3-5 calls daily with devastated consumers who had “no-show” movers. When your moving date is critical to uphold, you need to know you are hiring movers that are accountable to show up and stick by their price which is based on: experience, reputation and a sound foundation.

  1. Used Materials.

Due to covid liability, used boxes and other materials are not available as before. Thus, make sure to get an idea of how much material you will need to pack yourself when receiving your free moving quote. Often, professional movers such as White Glove will offer material discounts if hired as the moving partner and will arrange for box delivery. Packing kits are also available for purchase at White Glove’s office located at 2175 45th St in Vero Beach for those looking to pack up for a home remodel or estate downsizing project and not in need of hiring a moving company. Keep in mind, if you wish to have your professional moving team do the packing it can be arranged cost effectively and all materials will be new.

Back to School Drives

Each year, White Glove Moving & Storage takes pride in our ability to help other causes. Though the scope is always a bit different from group to group, during the summer months we know causes are in need of boxes to serve as vessels for collections. Throughout the Treasure Coast, students get to enjoy a fast paced summer and come early August it is time to get back to class. This year, our team of moving pros is excited to help out two great organizations with their Back to School drives.

Since 2015, White Glove has been teaming up with La Porte Farms in Sebastian, FL. Always hosting fun events and summer camps for the kids, La Porte Farms knows how to engage families with their petting farm, good food and live presentations. Each year, they do a big give away for the kids just before school starts and helps to equip the children with necessities ranging from bookbags to paper and pencils. Of course, Laura Laporte is only able to do so much on her own and relies heavily on the help of business partners throughout the county to host a White Glove box and commit to filling it up.  Interested in helping the kids in the north part of Indian River County? Then feel free to commit and do try to save the date for Saturday, July 31st for all the festivities full of families, vendors and great giveaways for all the kids who attend.

Next, White Glove was happy to team up with the Gifford Youth Achievement Center again for their back to school drive. Box hosts are requested now through the first week of August. With the help of many sponsors already, they have a nice head start but there is much more to gather. Including:

Pens, colored pencils, scissors, glue, rulers, sanitizer, tissue, paper, notebooks, backpacks, calculators, index cards, folders, markers, and more.

Save the date for the big giveaway on Saturday, Aug. 7th. The event will be done as a drive through and the satisfaction is seeing the joy on the kids faces.
