How Valuation Works for Your Move

Without a doubt, moving can be stressful. Of course, over time, many begin to find value in hiring a professional mover versus dealing with doing the hard work themselves. In particular, moving in South Florida can be a real aggravation due to the heat coupled with rules put forth by the various gated communities. Thus, when a customer does take the first step in hiring the pros to make the move that much easier, valuation should be something that is discussed.

In the world of moving and storage, whether the clients are moving locally or nationwide, coverage that is provided to the consumer is not insurance. Rather, it is referred to as valuation coverage and not all movers provide this type of peace of mind to their customers. At White Glove Moving & Storage, we are proud to provide valuation and openly discuss the options it offers during the complimentary survey. Keep in mind, onsite surveys are now performed both in person and virtually. One of the reasons we want to offer both options, is because we enjoy providing pricing and preparing our crews with the real details. That is only possible when our trained teams are able to see what is needing to be move and learn more about the details of where it is going or coming from. This is very true when it comes to interstate moves. As an agent with Bekins Vanlines, we work hard to help our customers understand the specifics of their move while alleviating the stress incurred while juggling the logistics of moving a great distance.

Once the survey is complete, our relocation specialists then take the time to learn more about the customers goods and their expectations of the move. No matter if it is near or far, there are some precautions that our team encourages customers to take to help safe gaurd their items like crating glass tops or custom crates for artwork that has its own lighting. Suggestions such as these are made whether the client chooses to pack themselves or opts for a full pack by the pros. It is important to notate, that which is packed by owner cannot be covered by valuation. No matter how you decide to handle packing, during the conversation, our team knows to ask pertinent questions and can identify high value items that helps to navigate the options of valuation. For example, an antique collectible chandelier worth an appraised value of over seven thousand dollars should be included in the valuation coverage whether it is highlighted as an individual piece or part of the entire shipment. Whereas, a standard rocking chair with no real high value wouldn’t need to be covered on its own, though it would be covered if there was protection taken out for the entire shipment which is based on weight.

Of course, should some sort of a claim arise from a bump of the wall to the accidental dropping of a piece during the off load, there are a few ways that this is addressed when valuation coverage is at play. If it can be fixed, a repair person is sent out as soon as possible to remedy it. Repair over replacement is always encouraged and sometimes this results in no deductible even needing to be paid. Other times, when full replacement of something is a must, the client is given a new item or check minus the deductible fees. Keep in mind, with years of experience under our belt, our team strives to avoid claims to the best of our ability. Still, things do happen and there are a lot of potholes throughout the country that can cause issues during transit. Valuation protection is always encouraged and the cost effective nature of the options makes selecting that coverage an affordable solution for peace of mind for your prized possessions.

What to Know When Moving Post Covid

Though the world as we knew it shut down in March of 2020 due to the pandemic, a whole new trend emerged; the ability to work from anywhere. Thus, many families and professionals found solace in being able to move back to their hometowns or seek new lifestyles outside of densely populated cities. That freedom directly launched a nationwide uptick in real estate transactions. Which then also created added volume to the ancillary businesses that support the real estate agents; all during a time when labor force was at an all time low.

Planning a move in 2021 into 2022? Here’s a few things to keep in mind from the Treasure Coast’s most trusted moving and storage providers, interstate agents with Bekins Vanlines, White Glove Moving & Storage.

  1. Schedule in Advance.

Pre-covid it was common for a company White Glove’s size, 16 trucks and nearly 50 full time employees, could service a local or an interstate move with as little as 7-14 days’ notice. However, with nationwide labor low and pockets of covid outbreaks still occurring, it is highly recommended to book your survey and discuss moving dates before even listing your property. Many top-rated companies are booking out 4-6 weeks in advance for both local and nationwide moving services; don’t delay.

  1. Accountability.

Many smaller movers bid low with a non-bound price that is sure to go up, require a deposit and then come moving day are unable to service your move. Why? They want the work but run into weather delays or labor shortages that make it impossible to show up when you need them most. On average our White Glove office receives 3-5 calls daily with devastated consumers who had “no-show” movers. When your moving date is critical to uphold, you need to know you are hiring movers that are accountable to show up and stick by their price which is based on: experience, reputation and a sound foundation.

  1. Used Materials.

Due to covid liability, used boxes and other materials are not available as before. Thus, make sure to get an idea of how much material you will need to pack yourself when receiving your free moving quote. Often, professional movers such as White Glove will offer material discounts if hired as the moving partner and will arrange for box delivery. Packing kits are also available for purchase at White Glove’s office located at 2175 45th St in Vero Beach for those looking to pack up for a home remodel or estate downsizing project and not in need of hiring a moving company. Keep in mind, if you wish to have your professional moving team do the packing it can be arranged cost effectively and all materials will be new.
