Red Flags When Choosing a Moving Company

1st red flag:

No License or Insurance!  Often consumers are motivated by the cheapest price and they over look the detail of confirming a company is approved to do business in the state.

  • As a quick overview, Hiring licensed and insured moving companies ensures professional service, liability protection for damaged or lost items, and compliance with safety regulations. These movers offer accountability, experienced labor to prevent injuries and damage, and legitimate business operations, significantly reducing moving day stress and risk.
  • Always check a mover’s BBB Business Profile for ratings (A+ to F) and complaint history.

No license, not on Sunbiz or an F rating…Let that be your first red flag!

2nd red flag:

A super low big should be a HUGE red flag.

It is suggested to always get more than one estimate. 3 bids are always encouraged, though referring only reputable movers matters when trying to find accurate pricing. What is worse are the movers who give a low bid and never actually go onsite to view in person what is being moved.

When choosing your mover it should be more than just price that helps you decide which company to hire…are they reputable? Will they make things right if something goes array? Do you know some of the players and what they stand for?

With that in mind, we have all heard the old adage: “That if something is too good to be true it probably is…” rock bottom prices often translates into low quality and predatory practices such as holding items hostage charging the customer 3-4xs the amount. If this happens, sadly, there is little local law enforcement can do  except provide a “civil stand-by” or “keep the peace” service to ensure safety while property is collected. However, police generally cannot break contracts; if the dispute is over payment, you may need a court order to retrieve items.

Let this resonate:

The Bitterness of Poor Quality Lingers Long After the Cheap Price is Forgotten.

3rd red flag:

Requiring a deposit or large about of money to be “put on the books.”

This is a common practice with rogue movers who often have no intention of performing the move they are requiring money for.

In fact, No-Shows make up 26% of the 13k complaints filed on moving companies throughout the nation.

Unfortunately, Florida has the highest number of moving complaints in the U.S. (6,187 between 2022-2024), followed by New Jersey.

So now that we have explored the top 3 red flags, let’s highlight what sets White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery apart and why you should feel very comfortable encouraging others to call White Glove Moving & Storage

Our first red flag was no license, insurance or bad rating.

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) reports over 13,000 complaints annually regarding movers and 1,335 moving companies have earned an “F” rating for unresolved, high-volume complaints and more than 25% of those were moving hostage situations right here in Florida.

At White Glove, we are proud to say we are A+ rated! With numerous reviews for moves locally, nationwide, and internationally the consensus is that our attention to detail and communication are strong and our pricing very fair; can I get a woo woo for A+s and fair pricing for top notch service.

Next, we covered low bids as a big red flag. What is worse is when a mover doesn’t provide that estimate in writing.  At White Glove we are proud to provide free onsite and virtual surveys for every move we perform and what’s even better is we provide documentation to our customers so much so they can use all that paperwork to help write off their move expenses on the following years taxes.

Finally, having celebrated more than 20 + years in business here in the Treasure Coast we understand there is a cost to do doing business which is why we have no credit card processing fees to our customers and we require NO deposits whether moving across the street or across the country.

We look forward to being of service and being a professional moving team you can refer/use for years to come and feel free to share these red flags with others.
